Olaf Scholz has voiced his clear opposition to French President Emmanuel Macron's efforts to turn the European Union into a "third" superpower. This came during the speech delivered by the Social Democratic politician to the European Parliament in the French city of Strasbourg on Tuesday.

In doing so, Schulz distances himself from Macron, who wants to make the EU a third superpower between the United States and China. In contrast, Schultz said that "Europe must turn towards the world," and expressed his belief that the duty of the hour is to increase openness and cooperation.
