Turkish voters will go to the polls on May 14 to elect a president and 600 members of parliament. The early elections were held under a revised election law and a presidential system of government for the first time in the country.

The ruling coalition said it aims to reform the electoral system, reset the impact of alliances on the distribution of deputies to become fairer. The opposition saw the law as aimed at avoiding the decline in the popularity of the ruling party and its partner, and weakening opposition alliances.
