After a very close duel, Alexander Stubb, 55, was elected president of the country this evening, with 51.7% of the votes. He succeeds the very popular outgoing President Sauli Niinisto, who will be remembered for having made the historic decision to bring Finland into NATO.

The new Finnish president will be the main interlocutor of the United States – with whom Finland recently signed an important bilateral defense agreement – ​​but also of China. He will also represent his country at the UN and within the NATO Council.
