Green politician Anton Hofreiter advocates easing the debt brake in order to be able to help Ukraine in the war against Russia. The opposition Republicans have been blocking the release of further billions in aid for Ukraine for months.
On Wednesday, a legislative package that included around $60 billion (56 billion euros) in new aid for Kiev failed in the Senate. The head of the Munich Security Conference, Christoph Heusgen, does not consider a Russian attack on NATO territory to be ruled out if Ukraine loses the war.
