The large-diameter sediment columnar sampling system developed by the Institute of Oceanography, Chinese Academy of Sciences, completed a sea test verification in the South Yellow Sea. The sampling diameter of traditional cylindrical sediment samplers is mostly about 110 mm.

Large-d diameter sediment samples are easier to obtain well-preserved stratigraphic accumulations or ancient human remains/relics. The origins and understanding of prehistoric humans have important implications for key scientific questions such as sea levels and how to respond to climate change.
