EU votes to ban import of products from deforestation into Europe. Products concerned include beef, cocoa, coffee, palm oil or soy.

Importers caught red-handed will see their product turned away, and fines provided for. According to NGO World Wild Fund for Nature, Europe contributes 16% of global deforestation.. Two-thirds comes from soybean and palm oil consumption alone, according to the NGO. The European Parliament and European Union (EU) member states reached an agreement last December. The text was proposed in November 2021.
