At the Protestant Church Congress, the Chancellor justified the planned reform of the EU asylum rules. The Greens in the European Parliament are announcing political resistance.

In particular, there are plans for a much tougher approach to migrants with no prospect of staying. In order to make the breakthrough possible, the German government had advocated that families with children be exempted from the so-called border procedures. It is conceivable, however, that the EU Parliament will still push through changes. It has a say in the reform and will negotiate the project in the coming months.
