EU announces first defense industrial strategy: 50% of new equipment to be sourced locally by 2030. EU countries have reduced investment in the defense sector since the end of the Cold War.

In the wake of Russia's military invasion of Ukraine, strengthening the region's defense industry has become a major issue. To support these efforts, the EU will allocate 1.5 billion euros, or over 244 billion yen, over two years starting next year. We also plan to establish an office for technology development in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, and promote cooperation between the Ukrainian military and companies.
