Ethiopia: Construction of the Renaissance Dam is 95% complete. Announcement came on the occasion of the 13th anniversary of laying the foundation stone for the project.
Negotiations to bridge differences over the Renaissance dam between Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan did not result in any agreement. Egypt, which was most affected by its construction, relies on the Nile River to provide about 97% of its irrigation and drinking water needs. It fears that the dam will affect its historical share of the river.
