This year's event was held in the midst of ongoing fighting between the Israeli army and the Islamic organization Hamas in the Gaza Strip in Palestine. Many award recipients and others called for a ceasefire now. The award for best documentary film went to a film depicting a village in the West Bank whose survival is threatened by Israeli forces.
