The Kakhovka Dam, one of Ukraine's most important dams, has been destroyed. The water level in the reservoir has risen significantly in recent weeks.

The dam made the flat Dnieper navigable. It dammed the water for 200 kilometers between Zaporizhzhia and Nova KakhOVka and held about 18 billion cubic meters of water. The humanitarian and ecological consequences are not yet foreseeable. The pictures show the devastation caused by the dam's destruction and the evacuation of people and animals.
