The government is halving the term of office for the boards of the country's universities and colleges. The reason is the security policy situation.

The decision has been met with criticism. Vice-chancellors wrote an open letter to the government in which they question the decision. Minister for Education Mats Persson says he stands by the decision and does not rule out other measures, such as training the board members in security issues.. "We do not believe that what the government is trying to achieve can be achieved with this type of change," says Johan Schnürer, Vice-Chancellor of Örebro University.
