France's Constitutional Council gives the green light to raising the retirement age from 62 to 64. But the Council refuses to give its opinion on a second issue, which is a proposal to raise the age of retirement from 50 to 60.

Union leaders had already warned that there would be more strikes if the reform was not withdrawn. The Council's decision means that the government will not have to make any further changes to the law. The decision was made by the National Assembly, the second chamber of the French parliament.
