US state of Hawaii is not subject to Article 5 of the NATO Defense Charter. If US naval base at Pearl Harbor or Indo-Pacific Command headquarters near Honolulu come under attack, the bloc's allies are not obligated to defend them.

CNN reported that NATO was founded in 1949, and Hawaii became the 50th US state only in 1959. The clue that the article does not apply to Hawaii is hidden in the very name of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization block. Hawaii, located in the Pacific Ocean, is not part of theNorth American continent.
