China's population fell last year for the first time in more than six decades, official data showed earlier this year. India has not conducted a census since 2011 and therefore does not have official data on its population.
The United States is far third, with an estimated population of 340 million, according to the same report, which relies on information available as of February 2023. In terms of the world's total population, the report estimated that it will reach 8.045 billion by the middle of the year.
