China considers resuming short-term stay visa exemption for Japanese nationals, demands measures from Japan as well. Since 2020, when the new coronavirus spread, the Chinese government has suspended measures to exempt Japanese people from visa requirements.

The Chinese government reached an agreement with Thailand to mutually waive visas for short- term stays, and from December last year it will also waive visa for six countries, including France, Germany, and Italy. Although measures are being taken, there is no prospect of reopening in Japan.
