Sudanese director Mohamed Kordofani is the first Sudanese director in the official selection of the Cannes Film Festival. "Goodbye Julia" tells how, on the eve of the division of Sudan, Mona, an ex-singer from northern Sudan, takes care of the young widow Julia and her son, originally from southern Sudan.

"I watched the film today and felt like I had taken a portrait of Khartoum before it was destroyed. Because every day I look at social media and I see my city on fire, it burns, it collapses," he says.
