Smoke from wildfires in eastern Canada is flowing into large cities in the eastern United States. The smoke is causing air pollution, delaying flights to and from New York and reducing visibility around the capital Washington.

Health authorities are urging the elderly and people with pre-existing medical conditions to refrain from going out non-essential and to wear masks when going out. U.S. meteorological authorities have issued warnings for a wide area, mainly in the east part of the country, noting that the concentration of air pollutants is increasing.
