Canada will require health warnings to be printed on individual cigarettes and cigars. The messages will include phrases such as "Tobacco smoke harms children" and "Cigarettes cause cancer" A similar bill was debated in the British parliament in 2022, without success.

The Canadian government aims to further reduce the number of smokers in the country to 5% of the population, or about 2 million people, by 2035, from about 13% currently. Nearly half of the country's health costs are related to the use of psychoactive substances.
