Talk has returned about the operations of Egyptian soldiers who carried out operations against the Israelis in the post-Camp David era. The most famous of these was Operation Salah, in which three Israeli soldiers were killed near the Al-Awja border crossing.
The operation was carried out in retaliation for the desecration of the Egyptian flag by Israeli soldiers in the 1980s and 1990s. In the past two years, dozens of Israeli soldiers have been killed by Egyptian soldiers trying to infiltrate the border area.
