A drag queen course in Mérignac, near Bordeaux, for children aged 11 to 15 is causing controversy. Parents of the students are demanding its cancellation.
The Maison des Jeunes et de Culture (MJC) has been the subject of a petition since Monday. The latter already has almost 3,000 signatures. The MJC says it wants to encourage freedom of expression and fight against discrimination. But the age group to which this course is offered, from 11 years old, is at the heart of the controversy.
