U.S. used artificial intelligence to identify the targets it hit with air strikes in the Middle East.

The strikes were carried out by American bombers and fighter aircraft against 7 facilities in Iraq and Syria. The targeting algorithms were developed within the framework of Project Maven, a Pentagon initiative to use artificial intelligence in all aspects of defense intelligence. The project began in 2017, with a focus on prototypes for fighting ISIS elements in the region. The US Central Command, which manages military operations in the area, confirmed the use of artificial intelligence.
