[HIGHLIGHTS] Assuming further reforms: EU decides on accession negotiations with Bosnia

The EU has decided to start accession negotiations with Bosnia-Herzegovina. First, Sarajevo must initiate reforms.

The EU had already offered Bosnia the prospect of joining in 2003. Of the six Western Balkan states, only the Republic of Kosovo is not a candidate for membership. However, the country has already submitted an application for membership and was accepted into the group of candidate countries in 2022. It is unclear how long it will take from the start of accession talks to EU accession.
