Francois Bayrou was arrested this Monday on the decision of the Paris judicial court, in the case of European parliamentary assistants. The prosecution had requested against the president of the MoDem 30 months of suspended imprisonment, a fine of 70,000 euros and three years of suspended ineligibility, for complicity in the embezzlement of European public funds.
At issue: 11 disputed contracts, for a total damage of 293,000 euro according to the European Parliament. Accusations that François Bayrou has always strongly contested.
