An American official said, on Friday, that the United States is on high alert in anticipation of a possible Iranian attack targeting Israeli or American assets in the region. Israeli warplanes bombed the Iranian embassy in Damascus last Monday, in a raid that led to the death of an Iranian military commander.
US President Joe Biden discussed the threat posed by Iran in a phone call Thursday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The New York Times quoted Iranian officials as saying that Tehran had put its forces on highalert.
