Japanese Ambassador to the United States Koji Tomita said at a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington that Tokyo and NATO are discussing increasing cooperation. Tomita was responding to a journalist's request to comment on the publication of the Japanese newspaper Nikkei, according to which the North Atlantic Alliance intends to open a representative office in Japan next year.

Earlier, the former assistant to the President of the U.S of America for national security, John Bolton, expressed the opinion that NATO should invite Australia, Israel, Japan and other states capable of making a significant contribution to the alliance's budget to its ranks.
