A magnitude 7.8 earthquake occurred in southern Turkey near the border with Syria, causing many buildings to collapse. More than 59,000 people were killed in the quake, which took place on February 6, 2013, near the Turkish-Syrian border. The earthquake was centered in the southern province of Turskiye.
