Gansu is an important water conservation area in the upper reaches of the Yellow River and Yangtze River. It is an ecological barrier area that prevents the southward confluence of the Tengger, Badain Jaran, and Kumtag deserts.

It plays a decisive role in ensuring national ecological security. Issues such as supervision of the ecological environment of the Qilian Mountains and high-quality development of Yellow River Basin have become topics of concern to representatives and committee members during this year's National Two Sessions.
