More than 7.3 million Senegalese are called to vote on Sunday March 24 to elect their fifth President of the Republic. This is the twelfth presidential election since the country's independence in 1960.

For the first time in the political history of Senegal, the outgoing president, Macky Sall, in power since 2012, is not a candidate. With 18 million inhabitants, Senegal is one of the most stable countries in West Africa shaken by coups d'état. To be able to run in the election, candidates had to collect sponsorship from voters registered on the electoral lists.
