French army has evacuated more than 240 people from Haiti, a country mired in a bloody gang war. While relief is obviously in order, some of these evacuees are thinking of their families remaining on the island.

Since the start of 2024, more than 1,500 people have been killed in armed violence with gangs in Port-au-Prince. “It was better to send the army instead of evacuating all these people, it cost France a lot more! You realize: three warships, and we spent four days in there”, relates one Haitian.
