Kelly Clements, Deputy High Commissioner of UNHCR = United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, gave an interview to NHK in Tokyo on May 5. More than 31 million people, or more than 1% of the world's population, have been displaced due to conflicts and natural disasters.
There are concerns that the number will increase further due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and tensions in Sudan. Prime Minister Abe expressed his expectation that the international community will cooperate with countries that accept large numbers of refugees.
