At the end of several days of diplomatic negotiations, Recep Tayyip Erdogan gives up carrying out his threat and therefore does not declare

persona non grata

the ten ambassadors who had defended the philanthropist

Osman Kavala

.

The Turkish head of state said the diplomats had "come

back from their mistake

" and hoped that they would be "

 more careful from now on

 ".

A hand extended to Turkey

A few hours before this outcome, the United States Embassy had affirmed on Twitter its attachment to article 41 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which prohibits any interference in the internal affairs of the host country.

The other embassies concerned - including those of France and Germany - had retweeted this message.

While the pro-government press is jubilant by assuring that Western countries have "

backed down

", other observers - including former Turkish diplomats - see it rather as a way for these countries to manage a way out of the crisis for Tayyip Erdogan.

Like a kind of outstretched hand to avoid the serious consequences, on diplomatic relations but also on the Turkish economy, which the unprecedented dismissal of ten ambassadors would have had.
