July 27, 2021Camila Giorgi has removed the pass for the quarter-finals of the Olympic tennis tournament that is being played on the concrete courts of the Ariake Tennis Park in the capital of Japan.

The Marche is the third Italian among the best eight at the Olympics after Raffaella Reggi (Seoul 1988) and Francesca Schiavone (Athens 2004).

The 29-year-old from Macerata, n.61 WTA, debut at the Olympics, after her debut success against the American Jennifer Brady, n.15 in the ranking and 11th seeded, repeated in the second round against the Russian (in this case in the race under the insignia of the Olympic committee of her country) Elena Vesnina, currently n.303 in the ranking, in the second round liquidated by 6-4 6-2, in an hour and a quarter of a match, the Czech Karolina Pliskova, n.7 of the ranking and 5 of the seeding, in a match never in question, which started three hours late due to bad weather, dominated by a particularly centered Camila.

The 29-year-old from Louny, finalist at Wimbledon, was in the lead 5-2 in the previous record with the blue number one who, however, had won the last challenge, played a month ago in the first round on Eastbourne grass. Camila took a break advantage (2-1) but returned it immediately (2-2). In the fifth game, however, which lasted 14 points, he removed the serve again in the Czech Republic, this time confirming the break advantage (4-2), sufficient for the Marche, who did not concede anything, to secure the first set (6- 4).

In the second set Camila snatched the bar already at the start of Karolina, who in this fundamental is one of the queens of the tour, then climbing to 2-0. Unleashed the blue got a second break in the fifth game (4-1). In the quarterfinals Giorgi, who has not yet lost a set, will have to contend with the Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, n.6 in the ranking and 4 in the seeding: one equal to the balance of the previous ones with the 26-year-old from Odessa scoring in two sets in the first round from Wuhan in 2014 (hard) and the 29-year-old from Macerata who won in three sets in the round of 16 in Birmingham in 2017 (grass).
