The general election will take place on September 26th.

For the first time in the history of the Federal Republic of Germany, the incumbent Chancellor will no longer run: After 16 years in the Chancellery, Angela Merkel will no longer run for the Bundestag.

Not only the CDU / CSU and SPD, but for the first time also the Greens have named candidates for chancellor.

In the course of the year it looked for a long time as if the Green Annalena Baerbock might be dangerous to the Union and its candidate Armin Laschet, but in the summer the SPD candidate Olaf Scholz made it to the top of the polls.

It is expected, however, that forming a coalition will be difficult.

It is likely that at least three parties are required for this - and that there are a number of options, i.e. many imponderables.

The elections for the Berlin House of Representatives and the State Parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania take place at the same time as the Bundestag election.
