The Security Council explained the protection of the ship "Akademik Chersky" by the ships of the Navy

This was stated by the Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council Mikhail Popov.

“As part of the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, the ships of the Navy ensured the safe passage of the Akademik Chersky pipe-laying vessel and the Ostap Sheremet and Ivan Osipenko supply vessels from Vladivostok to Kaliningrad,” he said in an interview with “ Interfax ".

This measure was due to "the risks of provocative actions on the part of individual states," he explained.

On May 1, the Akademik Chersky pipe-laying vessel, which was considered as one of the options for completing the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, approached the laying site.
