The number of candidates for the Syrian presidential elections increased to 29
The number of candidates for the presidency of the republic in Syria increased to 29, after the announcement today, Monday, of submitting 8 new applications, including one from a woman, according to what the President of the Syrian People's Assembly, Hammouda Sabbagh, announced.
A member of the Syrian parliament told the German news agency (dpa): "The number of candidates exceeded the expected number, and we have two more days, and the number of candidates may reach more than 35 candidates, while the number of candidates in the last session was 24 candidates in the 2014 elections." .
The nomination window for the Syrian presidential elections was opened last Monday and ends tomorrow, Wednesday.
The candidates for the presidential elections included 4 women, a figure from the opposition and a Syrian Kurd, in addition to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
The 26th of next May has been set as the date for Syrians abroad to cast their votes in the elections, while voting will take place inside the country on the 28th of the same month.
