The new American space force announced Tuesday its new operating structure, including an operational command in the name worthy of the Star Trek series: Space Operations Command or, in the jargon of the Pentagon, SpOC.

"SpOC will be the main source of forces and capabilities for combatant commands, coalition partners, the general staff and the country," the Space Force said in a very serious statement.

Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado will house SpOC headquarters, the statement said.

Social networks were delighted with this name, which recalls that of the Vulcan character from Star Trek, Spock, recognizable by his pointed ears.

"I would be Commander SpoC," noted a surfer, under a photo of actor Leonard Nimoy who played Spock.

The Space Force will also have a dedicated training command, which will be called Space Training and Readiness Command, or STARCOM. The operational units will be called "deltas".

It is not the first time that the famous television series finds itself suspected of having rubbed off on the American army: the logo of the new Space Force, an arrow pointing upwards, overhanging a planet on a background of stars, is very similar to that of the Starfleet, a space fleet from the Star Trek universe, which has existed since 1966.
