The Algerian president was transferred to Germany for "in-depth medical examinations"

The Algerian presidency announced, in a statement, today, that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has been transferred to Germany for "in-depth medical examinations", days after suspected Covid-19 cases in his vicinity.

The statement indicated that Tebboune (74 years) was transferred abroad "on the recommendation of the medical team."

The presidency announced, on Tuesday evening, that the Algerian president, who started a quarantine on Saturday, was transferred to a military hospital in the capital, Algiers, "noting that his health condition does not cause any concern."

The presidency did not specify the exact reasons for his hospitalization in Algiers or the reasons for his transfer to Germany.

However, on Saturday, it announced that Tebboune had "voluntarily" placed himself in isolation for five days, after the possible infection of a number of senior officials in the presidency and government with the new Corona virus.

The presidency said, in a statement, that his transfer to Germany came "upon the recommendation of the medical staff."

This announcement comes four days before the referendum on amending the constitution proposed by the Algerian president to establish a "new republic".

Tebboune was supposed to open, yesterday evening, the chapel of the Great Mosque in the capital, the third largest mosque in the world, on the eve of the Prophet’s birthday.
