The Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, Matar Muhammad Al Tayer, witnessed some of the final exams for companies and academic institutions that qualified for the finals of the second round of the Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport, which was devoted to the axis: (self-driving logistics), and included means of transportation. Al Tayer listened to an explanation from the Executive Director of the Public Transport Corporation and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Dubai World Conference on Self-Driving Transport, Ahmed Hashem Bahrozyan, Director of Transportation Systems Department and Head of the Challenge Team Khaled Al-Awadi, about the tests that were conducted over a period of six weeks, in three main areas, which included the university robotics test track, the drone test area, and the test track for the pioneers of manufacturing self-driving technologies, and several scenarios were developed, including tests with fixed and moving obstacles, and virtual ones.
Participants are evaluated based on three basic elements: the first: safety, which includes reliability, handling of vision, interaction with pedestrians, and speed control, and the second element: ease of use, which includes speed, safety of goods and understandable behavior, and the third element: the level of maturity, which includes passing Scenario, operator interaction, route planning, detection and forecasting.
Five companies participated in the tests of the leading companies category, namely: Neolix from China, Arti from Austria, iAuto from Taiwan, Yandex from Russia, and Kiwi Bot from the United States of America, while he participated in the tests of the local universities category, New York University Abu Dhabi, Khalifa University of Science and Technology, Rochester University of Technology in Dubai, American University of Sharjah, University of Sharjah and University of Dubai, and the names of the winners of the Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport will be announced at the end of October.
Al Tayer praised the great development in the level of the projects participating in the challenge, and their reaching an advanced stage in innovating technological solutions to provide self-driving logistics services, stressing that the participating initiatives open broad prospects for developing the logistics sector, through the use of autonomous ground transportation and drones (Drones). ).
