The Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven has announced his resignation.
The 64-year-old politician announced on Sunday that he would resign from his position as party leader of the Social Democrats at the party congress in November and that he would also quit as prime minister afterwards.
The decision had matured in him for a while, said Löfven on Sunday in a speech in Akersberga near Stockholm, as reported by the SVT broadcaster and the TT news agency.
At the end of June, Löfven had already resigned as Prime Minister after a vote of no confidence.
After a few days, however, he received the necessary support again in the Swedish parliament.
The trigger for the government crisis was a dispute over rental prices for new buildings.
Löfven currently leads a red-green minority government.
It is the third government he heads.
The next parliamentary election is planned for September 2022.
