The correctional court of Niort (Deux-Sèvres) tried this Monday a young man of 25 years accused of having targeted a police officer with a dummy weapon.

The defendant was found guilty of violence and death threats, and sentenced to two years in prison.

The facts took place this Friday after a witness had alerted the police, reports

.

Three summons were necessary

The respondent was strolling in the city center of Niort in a state of intoxication.

Armed with a bottle of whiskey and his gun, he could hear traffic.

Three police officers were dispatched to the scene to restore order.

The young man then aimed him with his fake revolver.

"He did not put down his weapon until after three summons," said the police officer during the trial.

The defendant explained that he was shooting a rap clip, without being able to justify the absence of a camera.

He was also accused of having threatened with death earlier in the day one of his colleagues, who came to testify in court.

The man returned to detention after the verdict and had a previous three-month reprieve revoked.
