The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, and Pope Francis
met this Saturday at the Vatican
for just over half an hour, according to sources from the Moncloa Palace.
Sánchez, who was accompanied by his wife, Begoña Gómez, arrived at the San Dámaso courtyard under a light rain at 9.11 a.m. and was received by the regent of the prefecture of the Pontifical House, Leonardo Sapienza, who accompanied them inside the palace pontifical.
According to Vatican sources, the private meeting began somewhat in advance, respecting the official time (9.30am), at 9.20am and ended at 9.55am.

The president and his wife were dressed in dark, as required by Vatican protocol, and the women in the delegation did not wear headdresses.
The Spanish delegation was also made up of the ambassador to the Holy See, Carmen de la Peña, and members of the Spanish Government Presidency team.
After the audience with the Pope, Pedro Sánchez met with the Secretary for Relations with States, Archbishop Paul Gallagher in the Treaty Room, as the Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin, had a long-standing commitment, according to Vatican sources .
