Russia has formally appropriated the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine, which it has militarily occupied for months, according to a decree signed by its President Vladimir Putin.

“The government shall ensure that the nuclear facilities at the plant (…) are accepted as federal property,” the executive order reads.

Shortly after this announcement, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, who had planned to travel to kyiv and Moscow this week, announced his departure for the Ukrainian capital to discuss the establishment of a protection zone around the plant.

sentence of the day

Our people are not stupid.

And he sees that we don't want to tell him even part of the truth.

This can lead to a loss of credibility”

This sentence was pronounced by Andrei Kartapolov, head of the Defense Committee of the Duma, the lower house of Parliament, and a former military commander.

It is a sign of disarray in Russia caused by the many reverses of the army which led this senior parliamentary official to call on it to "stop lying" about its defeats.

The trend of the day

kyiv's troops continue their counter-offensive, claiming further gains in the East and South.

On Wednesday, the Ukrainian governor of the Lugansk region, so far under almost total control of Moscow, proclaimed a breakthrough.

“Now it's official.

The disoccupation of the Luhansk region has begun.

Several localities have already been liberated, ”said Sergiï Gaïdaï in a video posted on Telegram, without further details.

The day before, Ukraine had already claimed advances in the north of the southern region of Kherson, while almost all of the Kharkiv region (northeast) now appears to be under Ukrainian control, paving the way towards that of Lugansk , stronghold of the separatists installed by Moscow since 2014. The Russian army for its part assured on Wednesday that it had carried out, in the past 24 hours, "massive strikes" near Lyman (Donetsk region), a city recently taken over by Ukrainian forces, and inflict heavy losses on them.
