The second international line Scott Barrett extended his contract with the New Zealand Rugby Federation and the Crusaders club until 2023, the federation announced on Tuesday.

Barrett (26, 36 caps) is the captain of the Crusaders, Christchurch-based Super Rugby franchise.

"This is great news for New Zealand Rugby and the All Blacks. Since his selection debut in 2016, Scott has made an exceptional contribution and we know the best is yet to come. It's very exciting," said the All Blacks coach Ian Foster.

Winner of the Rugby Championship in 2017 and 2018, Scott Barrett was present, alongside his brothers Beauden and Jordie, at the 2019 World Cup in Japan, finished in 3rd place after a defeat against England (19-7).
