The mayor of Lille, Martine Aubry, on Wednesday supported Anne Hidalgo to represent the Socialist Party in the presidential election in April 2022, saying that the mayor of Paris had "a real vision of France today".

"I think that it is really the person today who at the same time by its history, by its course, by its way of working (...) knows the situation of the French, because it showed in Paris that 'she had convictions, that she quickly went from speech to action, and that she has a real vision of France today, ”Ms. Aubry said on franceinfo.

"We should be happy to have someone who is recognized internationally" she continued, recalling in passing their friendship "of 30 years".

The current mayor of Paris is a former member of Martine Aubry's cabinet at the Ministry of Employment, between 1997 and 2002.

If Ms. Hidalgo has not yet formalized her candidacy, Martine Aubry says she has "few doubts" that she is launching.

She ensures that "Anne has already filled up" at the PS, while an internal primary must take place after the party congress (September 18-19).

The candidacy of the mayor of Paris, welcomed by socialist activists, is also supported by the first secretary of the PS, Olivier Faure.

But other voices want "a debate" including Stéphane le Foll, candidate for the internal primary.

"We have to stop talking to each other, between our primary, and we yell at the neighbor, et cetera. It is no longer possible. They are fed up, the French, of all these productions, of all these egos, "said Martine Aubry.

"I think we must now let Anne do, that is to say, the day she announces her candidacy, that she can talk to the French. Let us finally talk about their problems instead of talking about our problems for us, ”she concluded.
