Hanover (dpa / lni) - For the planned natural gas production project off Borkum in the North Sea, application documents, an environmental report and draft permits from the competent Dutch authorities will be publicly available from Friday to June 3.
The plans can be viewed in the city of Borkum and the municipality of Krummhörn (Aurich district), as the Lower Saxony State Office for Mining, Energy and Geology (LBEG) announced on Thursday.
The documents are also available online.
Citizens can submit comments until June 3rd.
The Dutch company ONE Dyas BV wants to extract natural gas from the N05-A natural gas field and, among other things, build a platform at sea for this purpose.
It is said to be in the Dutch territorial sea, but only about 500 meters from German territorial waters and about 20 kilometers off the coast of Borkum.
The cities of Borkum and Norderney reject the project in principle.
"Especially with regard to the sensitive disturbance of the unique insular habitat for humans and nature, the expansion of industrial plants in the vicinity of the East Frisian Islands is not acceptable," it said in a statement from November 2020.

Since the project has an impact on Germany, the Federal Republic is involved in the environmental impact assessment procedure, which is being carried out under the aegis of the Dutch authorities.
In Germany, around 6.1 billion cubic meters of natural gas were produced almost exclusively on land in 2019 - Lower Saxony's share of domestic natural gas production is stable at around 97 percent.
