October 27, 2020 At least seven people died and 70 were injured when a bomb went off today in a madrassa in Peshawar, the provincial capital in northwestern Pakistan.

The police announced it.

"The explosion occurred while teaching the Koran. Someone brought an explosive bag into the religious seminary," said an official.

The bomber left the courtroom before the blast, according to police.

The victims are allegedly all students, while two teachers are also injured.

No group has currently claimed responsibility for the attack.

The explosion follows months of relative calm in Pakistan.

Peshawar was once the epicenter of militant violence in the Asian country, with jihadists targeting the city's security forces and public spaces near the northwestern border with Afghanistan.
