An amateur author had the good surprise to see several studios snatch up one of his short stories. Posted on Reddit since February 2020, the new “My Wife and I Bought a Ranch” had been a hit online.

So much so that Netflix, among other studios, fought tooth and nail to buy the rights to the writer of the short story, Matt Query, in order to adapt it to a series. According to Deadline  relayed by Presse-Citron , the writer would have received more than one million euros from the American giant.

A horror story still online

Indeed, the streaming platform would have signed a seven-figure check to obtain the rights. Netflix declined to comment on this acquisition. The short story written by Matt Query is a Stephen King horror story.

It tells the story of a couple, Harry and Sasha, who buy a ranch for nothing. But the two heroes quickly realize that a malicious spirit occupies the place. The news is still available on Reddit, in the r / nosleep channel dedicated to stories of the same genre.
