Moderna expects to develop a vaccine against the Omicron strain in early 2022

Paul Burton, chief medical officer for medical affairs at the American company Moderna Pharmaceuticals, said that if the new mutant of the Corona virus "Omicron" overcomes current vaccines, it is likely that a modified vaccine will be prepared to combat this strain by early 2022.

And “Bloomberg” news agency quoted Burton as saying today, Sunday, on the “Andrew Marr Show” program broadcast by the BBC: “We must know how much the current vaccine can provide protection in the next two weeks, if we are to make A completely new vaccine, I think this won't actually be available in large quantities before early 2022... The great thing about the mRNA vaccines that Moderna is producing, is that we can move very quickly.”

The Cambridge, Massachusetts-based biotech company recalled "hundreds" of employees early Thursday, following news of the Omicron strain.

Depending on how long a person has been vaccinated, the best advice for now is to take one of the current corona vaccines, Burton said.
