  According to reports, the 61-year-old Sabri was appointed as the country’s deputy prime minister in July 2021 and previously served as the defense minister.

Sabri is also responsible for Malaysia's epidemic prevention and control measures.

  Singapore’s “Lianhe Zaobao” stated that the statement from the Malaysian National Palace stated that Sabri will be sworn in as prime minister at the Malaysian National Palace at 2:30 pm local time on August 21.

  On August 16, the former Prime Minister of Malaysia Muhyiddin submitted his resignation to the Supreme Head of State Abdullah. Abdullah then appointed Muhyiddin as interim prime minister until the new prime minister was appointed.
